Members of CUPE 2141, Municipality of Sioux Lookout workers, recently presented a cheque for $500 to the Out of the Cold Shelter in Sioux Lookout.
Sally Rose, CUPE Local 2141 Secretary, shared, “We’re always looking for ways to help in the community. At one of our meetings we noticed the Out of the Cold Shelter is always looking for donations, particularly financial donations. We brought it forward to our members and they were more than happy to make a financial contribution of $500 to the Out of the Cold Shelter.
Shelter Executive Director Susan Barclay commented on the donation, “We’re very thankful the CUPE local was able to support us. We’ll use it to support the clients that come here and use this place on a regular basis. We’re very thankful for the community’s support.”
She added, as colder weather sets in, “The colder it gets, the more volunteers we could use around here, so if there is anybody out there that would like to give us a hand, we’d love donations as well. Our volunteers’ time is something we value very highly around here.”
People can contact Barclay at the shelter at 737-7499.
